Two words – pretty awesome! Now for the more elaborate review. 🙂 The club fits 900, and I am guessing we got to about 600. The Gruenspan is a cool club, with a large balcony and lots of personality – and great accoustics. The crowd was a wild mix – loads of Americans, cool hip Germans, and some old farts in Cowboy hats. I have to admit that this is a personal pet peeve of mine… I don’t get Germans wearing Stetson hats and doing line dance. While I love country, the crowd that often goes with it… just isn’t my cup of tea. There is a reason why I am usually more at home at Rockabilly concerts. By being a church choir member, I got the chance for a meet & greet. First annoyance – it was scheduled before the concert. So all my prep work to get into the front row was for nothing. I ended up in the third row by having met some cool Americans while lining up to get in, who saved me some space. Second annoyance – we missed the supporting band. Like, all of it. Because they made us wait for 20 minutes outside in the parking lot. Eric arrived, and then it was a matter of 2 minutes – for the whole group. Step forward, smile for picture, get an autograph, turn around, leave. I didn’t even bring a camera, so really wasn’t looking for a photo or autograph – but they have their own photographer, so sure. One more instance where it is apparent that Eric is a marketing genius – avoid crappy fan photos by bringing your own camera man! But it was so painfully obvious that Eric hates these meet and greets… would never do this again. I feel so bad for him for having to go through that. All I wanted to give him was a Hamburg souvenir for Boone, and I think he did appreciate that, despite all – and Boone now has a small teddy from the coolest soccer club on the planet, FC St. Pauli. With a skull tshirt. Well, either Boone has a new teddy, or it gets lost in the huge pile of useless presents Eric surely has by now. 🙂 Back inside, finding my friends… and then the concert was off. And as much as I would like to give a song-by-song review, I couldn’t if I tried. It is a...

Soundcheck before the gig – fun. Shooting the breeze with the guys, cool. Lesson learned after the concert – absolutely awesome. And I am too old for the first row. Already no brakes during the opening band (Montreal), when Adma, Jonas, Hannes and Per came on, the room just exploded. Gotta admit that I gave up that front row after an hour, since my knee (kneecap popped last year) and ankle (metal inside) just screamed in pain after being pounded for 60 minutes. Now I gotta think…. going to Berlin in January yes or...
